Of course, we all “know” what golf clubs ARE, but for many of us who are new to the world of golf, a little basic lesson in the fundamentals of the clubs can really come in handy. Thankfully for you, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s my quick take on what golf clubs are and their functions:
Of course, we use the golf clubs to hit the ball; that’s a given. There are three parts to a golf club: the head, the shaft, and the grip. As far as the design goes, there are certain standards that must be met and dimensions not to be exceeded, streamlining the clubs. This prevents some golfers from having an unfair advantage over others.
A good golf club will maximize your swing and allow for errors in your swing (we all have them from time to time!). As you continue to develop a better swing, you can upgrade your clubs to ones that are less forgiving, but “better”.
Now the names of the clubs.
There are three woods:1-The 1-Driver;2-The 3; and 3-The 5.
There are eight irons: the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and PW.
There’s one putter. That makes a total of twelve clubs for your golfing bag. Golf rules allow you to carry fourteen, so some golfers will add an extra iron or a specialty wood. Sometimes, even though golf clubs are tailored for just about every situation, there’s a time and place for that magical club that nobody knows you have.
I hope that helps some of the beginners out there!
