Much like a fingerprint the golf grip is different for everyone else in the world and you can only find the grip that suits you by hitting ball after ball. In this article I will guide you on finding the correct golf grip but only your results on the golf course can be a true indicator of the success of your grip.
When playing golf it is important to have the correct golf grip because it affects the flight of the ball and it is the building block of the swing.
Here are the 5 steps to a better grip and a more consistent golf game:
1. Place the golf club in your left hand so that the golf club goes across the left palm. The shaft needs to run from the base of the forefinger to the pad above the pinky.
2. Now hold the handle steady with your left fingers and wrap your palm around the top of the grip.
3. Bring your right hand towards the bottom of your left hand.
4. Fold your right hand around the fingers of your left hand.
5. Both palms must face each other.
Congratulations, you now have the correct golf grip. The placement of the hands on the golf club controls what the clubface will do during the golf swing and how the clubface behaves when hitting the ball.
Now you have found the correct golf grip there is one last item we need to sort out and this is the grip pressure. The amount of pressure you apply to the club has a major impact in how you swing it. The tighter your grip the slower your arms will swing and the longer the clubface will take to release in the downswing which will cause a slice. This is a good thing if you hook the golf ball on the other hand if you have problems slicing the ball from right to left this amount of grip pressure will make the ball slice more.
If you have trouble with slicing the golf ball you should hold the club gently and the lighter you grip the club the faster it will swing. If you don’t see the ball hooking or slicing then you have found the correct amount of grip pressure and this will lead to much better results on the course.
